Kai, the protagonist of Martha Wells’s “Witch King,” would not fairly look like your typical fantasy hero at first. He’s a demon — or, maybe, he was a demon. After being assassinated, Kai’s consciousness stays, floating in some in-between house till he’s woke up by a lesser mage hoping to channel Kai’s energy for his personal ends. Now, Kai should strive to determine what occurred to get him murdered within the first place, how a lot has modified within the time that has handed since then, and why a mysterious, shady council is rising in energy. It will take lots of magic, and a few helpful allies, to uncover the reality in time.
