SPX has simply introduced its seven headline guests for their 2023 event happening the weekend of September 9 and 10, 2023 on the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. The headliners embody Derf Backderf, Leslie Stein, Tyrell Waiters, Natalie Norris, Ok. Wroten, Lawrence Lindell and Breena Nuñez.
SPX 2023 has simply opened its advance ticket portal with a full weekend cross costing $30, or day tickets at $20 for Saturday, and $15 for the Sunday. Further info on programming, exhibitors and writer attendees shall be anticipated in August, in line with their web site. Also in August would be the announcement of nominees for the 2023 Ignatz Awards.
The full visitor breakdown:
- Derf Backderf shall be presenting the paperback version of his 2020 graphic novel Kent State. Immediately previous to his SPX look he’ll conduct a lecture in regards to the e book on the Library of Congress at 7pm, September 7.
- New York cartoonist Leslie Stein shall be showcasing her latest e book Brooklyn’s Last Secret (Drawn & Quarterly)
- Ok. Wroten is bringing latest graphic novel Eden II (Fantagraphics)
- Debuting creators headlining this 12 months at SPX shall be Lyrell Waiters with far-out scifi romp Vern, Custodian of the Universe (NoBrow); and Natalie Norris with PTSD coming of age memoir Dear Mini: A Graphic Memoir, Book One (Fantagraphics)
- Lawrence Lindell and Breena Nuñez are the co-founders (and companions) of household run micropublisher Laneha House and co-hosts of the Kinnard Awards to have fun the comics neighborhood. Lawrence has a graphic novel debuting in September from Drawn & Quarterly, Blackward, and in addition has a forthcoming e book from Random House Graphic in 2024. Breena shall be representing their small press and presenting the most recent launch Laneha House, Issue 10 which can “feature a series of comic strips that chronicle Breena’s experience of what it like to navigate life during pregnancy and in postpartum as a mother/birthing parent”.
