Richie Palacios and Nolan Arenado every hit a two-run double Wednesday because the visiting St. Louis Cardinals topped the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 to avoid a collection sweep.
Paul Goldschmidt added an RBI single for the Cardinals.
St. Louis starter Zack Thompson (3-5) gave up two runs and 6 hits in 5 innings, with 5 strikeouts and one stroll.
