Hasan Minhaj has been caught stretching the reality in a handful of tales he is advised in his stand-up comedy — and his response to this revelation is … eh, it is not a giant deal, guys.
The comedian — well-known from ‘The Daily Show’ — received referred to as out in a New Yorker piece … which received him to admit that he’d fabricated a lot of the main points to a number of bits he’d finished on stage over time … nearly all of which performed up racism and bigotry over his Muslim heritage.
Every story Hasan Minhaj shares in his standup is constructed round a seed of reality, the comic advised @ClareMalone. “My comedy Arnold Palmer is 70% emotional truth—this happened—and then 30% per cent hyperbole, exaggeration, fiction.” https://t.co/noupiLBDfG

@NewYorker
One such anecdote that was embellished is about his daughter … and the way he had to rush her to the hospital after an envelope with white powder was despatched to his home. As it seems, all of the daughter stuff was made up — as he revealed when pressed by the New Yorker.
Other tales he exaggerated or flat-out lied about included certainly one of him getting turned down for a faculty dance due to his race — the lady in query says this wasn’t the case within the slightest — and one other about how an FBI informant infiltrated his neighborhood mosque. In each cases, there seems to be little reality to the substance of the tales.
Minhaj stated this to the New Yorker, “My comedy Arnold Palmer is seventy per cent emotional truth — this happened — and then thirty per cent hyperbole, exaggeration, fiction.” After being pressed additional by different media, he launched a lengthier assertion, which is attention-grabbing.
He says … “All my standup stories are based on events that happened to me. Yes, I was rejected from going to prom because of my race. Yes, a letter with powder was sent to my apartment that almost harmed my daughter. Yes, I had an interaction with law enforcement during the war on terror. Yes, I had varicocele repair surgery, so we could get pregnant. Yes, I roasted Jared Kushner to his face. I use the tools of standup comedy — hyperbole, changing names and locations, and compressing timelines to tell entertaining stories.”
HM provides, “You wouldn’t go to a Haunted House and say ‘Why are these people lying to me?’ The point is the ride. Standup is the same.”
