Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we’ve a collection of first-look pictures to share with you for Tony Shalhoub’s upcoming Monk revival film, Mr. Monk’s Last Case.
In the story, “When Molly’s fiancé is murdered, Monk devotes himself to solving the case, once again throwing himself into a mystery with a deeply personal connection to his own life.” Creator Andy Breckman provided some extra perception on the story, saying:
“When people ask me what the original series was about, I always say it was about loss. It was Monk dealing with the loss of his beloved wife, Trudy. And that, of course, we solved in the series finale. But the movie presents Monk with an equally emotional challenge that he has to step up and address. We found a way to raise the stakes yet again for this poor guy.”
When speaking about different parts of the movie, it’s defined that Monk spent a number of months on the peak of the pandemic in a hazmat go well with.” Breckman teases, “There are one or two mini flashbacks in the movie” and one of them will be a pandemic flashback.
The movie also introduces a new villain, Rick Eden (James Purefoy), described as “an egotistical billionaire obsessed with becoming the first civilian to orbit the Earth. If that sounds a lot like some contemporary figures, that’s by design.”
Breckman talks about Monk going up against this new foe saying: “The greatest tales are ones the place Monk goes up towards somebody very, very highly effective, very sturdy, and really dismissive of him — somebody that underestimates Monk from the start. In this world, there is not any another highly effective than these Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos sort of characters. In this case, the James Purefoy character is constructing a rocket. He’s sending himself into area.”
Monk isn’t the only character making a return to the film as the photos confirm we’ll be seeing Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), Randy Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford), and Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard). They’re all back!
