One of a number of initiatives that John Wick director Chad Stahelski has been engaged on is a reboot of the fantasy motion movie Highlander which Henry Cavill is ready to star in. He’s been growing this undertaking for years, and now we all know after we can count on it to hit theaters. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake just lately revealed on their investor name that the movie is aiming for a 2026 launch date.
There’s no phrase on when the movie will begin manufacturing, however I think about that will probably be after Stahelski is completed along with his adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima, which is probably going to be his subsequent movie undertaking. But we’ll see!
Stahelski beforehand talked about Highlander describing it as being John Wick with swords. The director has stated it would embody each acquainted characters and “elements” taken from the ‘90s TV sequence: “We’re looking to do our story [and it] engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that. But we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows. We’re trying to do a bit of a prequel setup to The Gathering.”
The Gathering refers to the culmination of the near-eternal battle among immortals. He went on to explain they are setting this whole thing up to expand and grow the story: “So, we have now room to develop the property. We have concepts for days about how one can make the best characters and to make that an epic TV present. I simply suppose that’s a wealthy, wealthy mythology.”
The original 1986 Highlander movie starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings, who are hunting down one another and collecting more power. The classic tagline for the film was “There can be only one.”
Stahelski also said the reboot was being developed as a trilogy. He explained that they are taking the best story elements from across the franchise and implementing it all into one story that will be spread out across a trilogy of films:
“I feel the TV sequence hit on a lot of nice stuff wasn’t within the function, between the watchers and all of the various kinds of immortals. How will we get this into a function mode earlier than we dribble it into the TV world? Well, let’s restructure it in elements, let’s have a look at it prefer it was a TV present, let’s have a look at it prefer it was a high-end trilogy. How to we inform the story of The Gathering, The Quickenings, The Immortals and the way do we actually construct this world out much more so than the unique undertaking? That’s what we’re restructuring proper now. It’s taking all the good things that we had earlier than I used to be concerned within the undertaking from the script; redeveloping the script to provide us actually good chapters one, two and three; and increasing the world.”
He also talked about his vision for the film, saying:
“The imaginative and prescient we’re attempting to get throughout and what we’re attempting to develop, I equate very near Star Wars. The first one is a very satisfying ending however it does depart the door open and that’s form of how I see this. I would like to broaden it over three. I see The Gathering taking place over three. It’s tough, don’t get me fallacious, that’s why we’re nonetheless growing it. We need to have the ability to inform three full tales that every one form of match. I feel the Star Wars trilogy, at the very least as much as The Empire Strikes Back, is a good instance of how we need to course of it.”
This reboot has the potential to be an epic and visually beautiful fantasy movie, and I’m excited to see what Stahelski does with it!
