The manufacturing firm Skydance has purchased the variation rights to the 19-book Ranger’s Apprentice sequence by John Flanagan within the hopes of turning it into a multi-movie franchise, beginning by adapting the primary two books into a live-action film. Flanagan shall be government producer, and Ted Melfi will direct, adapt, and produce.
Melfi informed Deadline, “The Rangers Apprentice and its focus on a group of orphans trying to figure out their purpose in the world is timeless, touching and cinematic. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to adapt it for the big screen.”
The sequence follows Will, an orphan who turns into the Ranger Halt’s apprentice, serving the king to guard the Kingdom of Araluen.
The sequence was first picked up for adaptation by Warner Bros. in 2008, however the film was by no means made. In 2019, it was introduced that the sequence could be made into a TV present by Dick Cook Studios, however Covid-19 halted manufacturing, and the mission was ultimately dropped. Hopefully this would be the first adaptation to make it to the display screen.
