The American Library Association has introduced its annual Youth Media award winners, including the Newbery, Caldecott and Prinz awards. The winners have been introduced at LibLearnX, an occasion changing the Midwinter ALA assembly.
As is regular lately, many graphic novels and “graphic novel adjacent” books have been among the many winners. Rather than attempt to solely record the GNs, I’ve taken the entire record and positioned the quilt and a hyperlink the place the e book is clearly a graphic novel.
The Caldecott winner, Big by Vashti Harrison is, like The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, the most effective promoting grownup graphic novel of current years, one thing of a hybrid between a straight out graphic novel and an illustrated e book. I’ll let the formalists argue the place thigns lie and why it issues, however suffice to say it’s a beautiful e book that anybody could be proud to assert.
Mexikid: A Graphic Memoir by Pedro Martín was a Newbery Honor Book, and gained many different awards and honors within the record, making it essentially the most distinguished straight out graphic novel on the record. Among different comics chosen: Worm by Edel Rodriguez, Family Style by Thien Pham, Parachute Kids by Betty C. Tang and IN Limbo by Deb JJ Lee.
I’ll have missed some winners right here; the record is lengthy and I needed to reformat it. Any corrections might be added to the feedback however congrats to ALL the winners.
John Newbery Medal:
