Somewhat bit about me, your curator for this week: I’m Pete Volk, our senior curation editor. I like motion pictures of all stripes, however my important areas of curiosity are motion motion pictures (particularly martial arts), basic Hollywood comedies (shout out to the GOAT, Ernst Lubitsch), and maintaining with new releases from world wide (I’ve tallied 150 2023 motion pictures watched and eight from 2024 to this point).
This weekend, I’ll in all probability watch The Marvels on Disney Plus, as a result of I believe Iman Vellani was stellar in Ms. Marvel however I missed the movie in theaters (and since I can solely push in opposition to my completionist instincts a lot). I’ll even be watching the brand new Delicious in Dungeon and watching extra of Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith. If I’ve time, I’ll sneak in one other 2023 catch-up movie — the primary contenders are American Fiction (out there to hire), Suzume (Crunchyroll), or the Tamil time-travel comedy Mark Antony (on Prime).
Now it’s time to show it round to you. What would you wish to watch this weekend (or what are you planning to watch)? Leave a request within the feedback and I’ll get to it between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. EST. Details help – let me know what you’re in search of, what streaming companies you have entry to (and if you’re prepared to hire), some concept of your style as a viewer, and another related information you really feel like sharing. And sure, whereas this concept is focused at motion pictures, I’ll area TV requests, too.
Some examples of fine queries:
“I loved RRR, and want to expand my knowledge of Indian cinema. What should I watch next on Netflix? Ideally another blockbuster with big musical numbers that mixes genres, and bonus points for anti-colonialist themes.”
“I like action comedies, but there aren’t many that focus on women protagonists. I like Spy and The Heat, but I’ve seen both plenty of times. What else can I watch in a similar vein? I have Netflix and Prime, and would prefer not to rent but I could for the right movie.”
See you within the feedback at 3:30 p.m. EST! Fire away your requests within the meantime.
