Garth Ennis is writing a brand new story for British sci-fi weekly anthology comedian 2000 AD that includes basic character, Rogue Trooper, for whom he has written a lot however not for a while. Co-creator of Preacher and The Boys writes Blighty Valley, drawn by Judge Dredd and Sniper Elite artist, Patrick Goddard. It follows Ennis’ return to British comics with the one-off revival of comedy strip Bonjo From Beyond The Stars in 2000 AD’s Christmas subject, which featured one of many final piece of comedian guide work by the late Kevin O’Neill, and his scripts for Battle Action, the hardcover anthology reviving basic comics struggle collection from the Nineteen Seventies.
The new 13-episode Rogue Trooper story begins in 2000 AD Prog 2326, which will probably be on sale on the fifth of April within the UK, via newsagents, comedian guide shops, and the 2000 AD webshop and app, after which in North America via Diamond Distributors in July.
Created by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons, and debuting in 2000 AD in 1981, Rogue Trooper is the final of the G.I.s – Genetically-engineered Infantry designed to outlive the poisoned and war-torn world of Nu Earth. Betrayed by his personal facet, he’s a lone warrior stalking these blasted lands in quest of the infamous Traitor General, accompanied by his lifeless comrades- their personalities encoded on ‘bio chips’ and inserted into his gear.
In this new story, Night’s Horizon is the interval two weeks out of yearly when Nu Earth’s orbit carries it closest to the black gap. The Norts name it Zvartchvintern; the primary settlers knew it as Lightfall. Things have a fame for going a bit… screwy round this time. Now, Rogue Trooper is about to expertise these results first-hand…
Garth Ennis mentioned: ‘For me Rogue Trooper is as important part of basic 2000 AD as Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Robo-Hunter, Nemesis the Warlock, or Sláine, and I properly bear in mind wandering the wastes of Nu Earth with Rogue and the bio-chips on their hunt for the Traitor General. The tales that immediately come to thoughts are ‘All Hell on the Dix-I Front’, ‘Fort Neuro’, ‘Eye of the Traitor’, ‘You Only Die Twice’ and ‘To The Ends Of Nu Earth’ – I hope ‘Blighty Valley’ will show a worthy successor to such unadulterated gems.’
Matt Smith, editor of 2000 AD mentioned:’Garth Ennis has written basic 2000 AD characters earlier than, however that is the primary time he is scripted Rogue Trooper. As you’d count on from somebody steeped in struggle comics, his tackle the G.I. is highly effective, thrilling and explosive. With Patrick Goddard offering the beautiful visuals, this a dramatic, unmissable addition to the Nu Earth saga.’
Rogue Trooper is the topic of the long-awaited film by Duncan Jones in a three way partnership between Liberty Films and Rebellion, the Oxford-based video games publishers and homeowners of 2000 AD. Maybe we’ll get some extra information of that in 2023 as properly.
