The first Saturday of 2023 has arrived, and it introduced Weekend Reading 144!
While it could be a brand new 12 months, right here at Stately Beat Manor, we’re nonetheless spending our weekends getting misplaced in a great e-book. What will you be paging by this weekend? The Beat needs to listen to from you! Let us know, both proper right here within the remark part or over on social media @comicsbeat.
AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend, I’ll be finishing my journey by Maison Ikkoku by Rumiko Takahaski with the tenth quantity of the Viz (*144*) launch.
DEAN SIMONS: Recently felt the urge to revisit the mid-‘00s Image series Elephantmen. I hadn’t learn it in a while and determined to return to the beginning. One of the issues I get pleasure from about it – other than some very fascinating heady themes – is that Richard Starkings invokes so many references to traditional British comics and scifi in these early points with Moritat. Also, after a number of weeks’ break, I’m persevering with my readthrough of Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura’s Blue Lock (a soccer manga which remains to be surprisingly entertaining for a man who doesn’t have a lot curiosity in sports activities).
TAIMUR DAR: Since subscribing to his Substack I’ve been on a Brian Michael Bendis kick currently. Having been first launched to his work by Marvel again within the day, I believed I’d correctly try a few of his non-superhero work I’ve been which means to learn for a while like Jinx, Pearl, and Joy Operations.
