Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Aníkúlápó’ has emerged the most-watched film on Netflix in Nigeria in 2022.
According to the information on streaming statistics website FlixPatrol, ‘Aníkúlápó’ overshadowed big worldwide tasks like ‘Adam Project’ and ‘RRR’ to safe the highest spot on the world’s main streaming leisure service supplier.
‘Anikulapo’, set within the seventeenth century historical Oyo kingdom, premiered on Netflix on September 30, 2022 and every week after its premiere, grew to become the most-watched non-English movie on Netflix, with a cumulative 8.7m streaming hours.
It stars Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Taiwo Hassan, Kunle Afolayan, and others.
Recall that Kunle Afolayan revealed that Netflix requested him to supply a sequence from Anikulapo.
He mentioned:
“I’ve been working on Aníkúlápó for six years. Originally, I wanted to make a series, but I shopped it and kept telling people that this movie would be bigger than Game of Thrones,” Afolayan mentioned.
“Eventually, Netflix informed me to make a film first since I believed within the mission that a lot, and if it grew to become successful, we’d develop a sequence.
“Right now, Netflix is the one urging me to start making the series. I knew we made a great film and that it’d start conversations, but I didn’t know it’d do as well as it has done,” he added.
