Happy Valentine’s Day to all lovers, hopeless romantics, and unhappy ladies and boys alike. Whether you are caught in Cupid’s arrow or not, you’ll be able to rely on Lana Del Rey to carry you a valentine.
Today, the singer-songwriter dropped the second single off her upcoming album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd (out March 24). After releasing the title observe in January, she’s shared “A&W,” which could not be extra totally different than the lead single.
Co-written and co-produced together with her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, “A&W” is a seven-minute odyssey that finds the narrator detailing her childhood and every little thing that led to her descent into intercourse habit and poisonous relationships, or as LDR sings, “This is the experience of being an American whore.” In the best Lana style, there’s doubtlessly a reference to the 2015 indie drama The Diary of a Teenage Girl, which is a few younger girl much like the character within the track, repetition of her singing, “Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop,” and self-mythologizing, as mentions a person named Jimmy, or a reputation used incessantly in her early work. There’s an apathy to her supply at occasions as she sings of loveless relationships, and but it is nonetheless stuffed with feeling — particularly because the track warps into an attractive trip-hop beat. All in all, it is one more seedy-yet-gorgeous American epic from the artist.
