The 2023 Women’s Prize shortlist as been introduced. The six books had been judged by broadcaster and author Louise Minchin, journalist and author Bella Mackie, novelist Rachel Joyce, author Irenosen Okojie, and member of parliament, Tulip Siddiq. They had been described by judges as being “ambitious, eclectic, and hard-hitting”
Half of the shortlisted authors are debut novelists, whereas the opposite half are authors who’ve received the Women’s Prize or been shortlisted earlier than. Four of the nominated authors are British, one is Irish, and one America, however the settings throughout the books span the globe — from Jamaica to Italy, Yugoslavia to Virginia.
