Nominees for the 2023 Glyph Awards announced

The 2023 Glyph Comic Awards have been announced. Replete with publishers huge and small, close to and much sharing classes that commemorate work for and about folks of coloration. Winners might be declared at the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention happening May 20, 2023.

One of the nice issues about the Glyphs is that it respects work no matter origin and so there’s a mixture of relative grassroots and sky excessive productions. Traditional publishing homes Abrams ComicArts (by way of John Jennings’ Megascope imprint) and Harper have nominees by way of Christopher Johnson, Steven Barnes and Christopher Moss‘ The Eightfold Path, Tananarive Due, Steven Barnes, Marco Finnegan‘s The Keeper, and James Spooner‘s The High Desert: Black Punk Nowhere – totaling six nominations.

The African continent is represented by two Nigerian publishers – VX Comics and Comic Republic (Comic Republic blitzing the charts with the second highest variety of nominations (9) for a number of sequence, together with Eru, Ireti Bidemi, Assegai, and Galactic Core).

The most variety of nominees goes to US-based Konkret Comics with 14 spots throughout 9 classes – 4 of which in the 2023 Glyph Fan Award for Best Work with Akolyte (by Derek ‘Lonzo Starr’ Allen, Bruno Lima, Matheus Huve & Mason Solimine), Kandake (by Onaji Rouse, Rodrigo Trinade & Samuel Marques), Organic Crissy (by Derek “Lonzo Starr” Allen, Cristina Elkins, Rodrigo Trindade, Matheus Huve, Bruno Lima & Matheus Huve), and Tevin Fields is the Watchman: Back in Blood (by Lyle Ringold).

Many entrants this 12 months had been crowdfunded initiatives – examples embody Second Sight Publishing’s The Protector, Clovis Batebola‘s O Kingdom Come, Abelard Alexis‘s Alternia – The Prelude, and Nigel Lynch and Juan Carlos Francisco‘s The Diary of The Stray Dogs.
