Exercise—the easy act of transferring our our bodies and giving our cardiovascular programs a bit of a problem—is fraught territory in American life. This is essentially as a result of now we have a health trade, as now we have industries for the whole lot, and trade tends to trigger as many issues because it solves.
“The fitness industry is filled with life-hacks for depression, but most of it seems to be coming from a place of ignorance about the cold war going on in the average depressed person’s head,” writes creator Sarah Kurchak in Work It Out: A Mood-Boosting Exercise Guide for People Who Just Want to Lie Down. She tailors her exercise steering to people who find themselves depressed, anxious or have typically had it with “perky fitness types,” providing approaches which can be each grounded in science and refreshingly dismissive of well-trodden myths, guidelines and routines. Pillow battle! Goblet squat your pet! (If they’re cool with it, of course.) I knew I preferred Kurchak’s type as quickly as I learn, “I don’t know anyone who has come out of the North American physical education system unscathed,” and the remainder of this humorous, useful e-book doesn’t disappoint.
