The Book of Love by Kelly Link
I fell in love with Kelly Link’s writing along with her brief story assortment Get in Trouble, which was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize. After proving herself the grasp of the brief story, Link is again, however this time along with her debut novel.
The Book of Love follows three youngsters — Laura, Daniel, and Mo — who all of the sudden discover themselves in a realm midway between the dwelling and the useless. Two otherworldly entities who guard the door between life and loss of life resolve to play a recreation with their lives. They shall be despatched again to the land of the dwelling, however they need to compete to see who will get to remain alive and who should return to the land of the useless. The three of them land again of their small city of Lovesend, Massachusetts, with their households having no reminiscence that they’ve died. Now, they possess magic, which they’re anticipated to make use of to achieve the higher hand on each other.
Like her brief tales, Link’s novel seems like a darkish fairytale, twisted and spectacular. There are mysterious beings, love past mortal creativeness, and loads of magical creatures. Though this novel clocks in at over 600 pages, I felt captivated by each web page. The characters are so effectively crafted, advanced, and messy. The stakes are excessive; the chance of anybody ending up alive on the finish is small.
January LaVoy — who’s mainly audiobook narrator royalty — performs the audiobook. She captures the entire teenage angst and uncertainty. Her narration evokes the fairytale-like really feel of the story, and I discovered myself engrossed for hours on finish.
The Book of Love is Link at her finest, her story full of caprice and darkness in equal measure. With her novel debut, Link proves a grasp storyteller, making this a very magnificent must-read.
