Australia’s AACTAs are making the move to peak awards season on the Gold Coast, in recognition of Queensland’s rising contribution to the Australian movie trade.
The AACTAs (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards) can be introduced in the Gold Coast in February 2024, aligning with worldwide awards season to “(drive) Australia’s talented creative community further on the world stage,” AACTA mentioned in an announcement.

AACTA president and actor Russell Crowe welcomed the change, which can see the awards depart Sydney, the place they’ve lengthy been held.
“The Australian Film Institute (AFI) and more recently The Australian Academy (AACTA) have provided the platform that has seen this country’s contributions to the global film industry just keep growing and making household names out of Directors, Designers, Cinematographers, Post-production Houses, Visual Effect Artists, Writers, Producers, and of course, Actors,” Crowe mentioned.
“We’re looking forward to broadcasting a memorable show and showcasing the Gold Coast and the Great state of Queensland.”
He continued: “This is going to be an event that really shakes things up and makes people have a lot of fun on our industry and in this state.”
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was additionally delighted by the change, which can deliver the awards to her house state.
“Our screen industry keeps going from strength to strength as we build our international reputation as the place to film world-class cinema and television content,” she mentioned in an announcement.
“Queensland is a production paradise offering the complete package, with film-friendly locations, highly skilled crew, world-class facilities and competitive incentives.

Many successful productions have been filmed in Queensland, including Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, which won 11 AACTA awards, including Best Film and Best Direction in Film, as well as 9 BAFTA and 8 Oscar nominations.
