Back in February, AMC Theaters introduced an attention-grabbing and strange new pricing technique: They have been going to cost totally different quantities for various seats in a theater. A primary seat within the middle of an auditorium would price a pair bucks greater than a seat on the edges or within the entrance. The concept appeared impressed by the way in which airways value their seats; you pay extra for additional legroom or on some carriers for a seat nearer to the entrance of the aircraft. (Obviously top notch seats price much more than that.)
Perhaps making film theaters extra like air journey — a factor folks famously and infamous love wholeheartedly and with zero complaints in any way — was not the most effective plan. Because now AMC seems to be shifting away from this variable seat pricing concept. They introduced this week in a press launch that after their “pilot” program attempting out what they’d dubbed “Sightline at AMC” they’re already discontinuing it. In theaters that had examined the pricing plan, seats will all be the identical value irrespective of the place you sit as soon as once more.

Instead, AMC says it is not going to check out its “next innovation – enhanced spacious front row seating with extensive seat recline. Beginning in late 2023, AMC will begin testing its newest seating concept. Large, comfortable lounge style seating areas will allow guests to lay all the way back and relax. The angle of the seats will also make it more enjoyable to watch movies from these front row seats closest to the screen.” Or, y’know, to take a two-hour nap.
Even in case you supply me the possibility to lay down in an enormous mattress, nothing goes to persuade me to sit within the entrance of the theater; I’m a center to again of the theater form of man. (If I need to lay in mattress and watch a film, I’ve a mattress in my home, and I don’t want to pay $20 to lay in it and watch Gymkata, thanks very a lot.)
Still, recliners elsewhere within the auditorium are a pleasant amenity. The actual story right here, nevertheless, is that AMC is ditching the in-theater variable seat pricing, which I did encounter a few times when going to see a film. It was positively irritating. I can’t miss it.
