Players have been asking for cross-progression in Apex Legends for a couple of years now. With 2023 about midway over and Apex Legends Season 17 about to start, we requested Apex Legends senior design director Evan Nikolich if the group had a launch window in thoughts.
“No, I’m not going to put a date on it,” Nikolich advised GameSpot. “It’s getting done. We have a Slack thread here, which updates every day. And yeah, I agree [with the players]–it’s frustrating. People want to be able to move. Even I’m one of those people. I’m primarily focused on PC, but I would love to be able to play on my PlayStation 5. So not there yet, but I’m hoping to talk soon about actually doing it. And when we can do it, we’ll let people know immediately. Because I want to stop talking about it.”
I do not blame Nikolich for being bored with folks speaking about cross-progression. The function is maybe probably the most oft-requested function for Respawn’s battle royale sport, and conversations about it have been lingering round for years, largely sparked by a remark from–at the time–Respawn director of communication Ryan Rigney in August 2021. During a Reddit AMA, he advised gamers that cross-progression was coming in 2022. Obviously, that did not occur.
In October 2022, Nikolich advised the press throughout the Apex Legends Season 15 preview occasion that there have been “no real updates” on cross-progression. We did not hear anything till February 2023, when sport director Steven Ferreira stated cross-progression continues to be “definitely coming.”
At this level, apparently Respawn goes to carry off on promising any extra launch dates for cross-progression till the group has a particular one in thoughts. I believe it is secure to say that we cannot be getting it throughout Season 17. We will see the implementation of a weapon mastery function in Apex Legends, nevertheless, in addition to modifications to World’s Edge and a brand new playable legend named Ballistic.
