Today Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with main toy and recreation firm Hasbro, revealed that Eisner Award-nominated artist Jorge Corona (Middlewest) will be part of Daniel Warren Johnson’s TRANSFORMERS as collection artist, for the second story arc. The subsequent arc of the smash hit collection kicks off with concern #7, which will likely be out there on cabinets in comedian e book retailers April 10, 2024.
TRANSFORMERS #7 will proceed the Energon Universe and the all-new period of the long-lasting TRANSFORMERS franchise from author (and present collection artist) Daniel Warren Johnson (Extremity, Do a Powerbomb) and colorist Mike Spicer (Stillwater, Murder Falcon). Following what guarantees to be an epic finish to the primary story arc with the upcoming TRANSFORMERS #5 and #6, Jorge Corona joins to start the Energon Universe story that may have everybody speaking.
“It’s a rare breed of artist that can naturally bring an organic quality to things that are inherently mechanical, and Jorge is one of those chosen few,” stated Daniel Warren Johnson. “Prepare your eyes for a feast of brawn and beauty, my friends. This man draws a mean looking Soundwave. KA BAM!”
“It started with a ‘Do you want to work on a book with Daniel Warren Johnson?’ and just in case that wasn’t a deafening ‘YES,’ they added: ‘It’s for the TRANSFORMERS book,’” stated Jorge Corona. “Growing up with TRANSFORMERS and its many iterations expanded in many ways what a cartoon could do for me. Even though it had the classic good vs. evil premise, it also added malleability to what the characters could do in that world. Betrayals, regrets, self-doubts, were all emotions that drove these characters and it added a complexity that I wasn’t familiar with in other shows. Fast forward to 30 years later and here I am seeing Daniel’s take on the franchise, rooted in his love for the original Generation One version, and it’s like reliving those childhood memories multiplied by a thousand. I am very honored and humbled to be a part of this project and cannot wait to share all of the craziness that’s coming up in the book.”
The Energon Universe formally started in June 2023 with the shock first look of iconic TRANSFORMERS character Jetfire in Void Rivals #1, introducing the historic new collaboration between Hasbro and Skybound, with TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE comics discovering a new residence with the writer. The Energon Universe not too long ago expanded with the launch of Duke #1, a restricted collection from Joshua Williamson (DC’s Superman, Dark Ride), Tom Reilly (The Thing) and Jordie Bellaire (W0rldtr33). Next up for the Energon Universe is the launch of Cobra Commander #1 later this month from Joshua Williamson, Andrea Milana and Annalisa Leoni. Fans ought to count on can’t-miss moments from each concern of the Energon Universe, as secrets and techniques are unveiled alongside the trail to answering the BIG questions.
