Actor Constance Wu (recognized for her lauded roles in “Fresh Off the Boat,” Crazy Rich Asians and Hustlers) narrates her considerate and revealing memoir in essays with an endearing mix of ardour and playfulness.
Throughout her profession, Wu has realized that life is a sequence of scenes that form us; we don’t form the scenes. She shares recollections of folks and occasions which have influenced who she is, together with humorous and heartwarming tales of her dad and mom’ assimilation into American tradition, humbling errors she’s made in love and work, an unexpectedly touching goodbye to her black Toyota Prius and insightful commentary on expertise, American tradition and Asian diaspora.
Evocative, provocative and all the time heartfelt, Making a Scene (8 hours) is worthy of an encore. It’s a nice match for followers of Michelle Zauner’s Crying in H Mart.
