In Waypoints: My Scottish Journey (8 hours), Scottish actor Sam Heughan, greatest recognized for taking part in Jamie Fraser within the TV collection “Outlander,” describes the expertise of climbing the West Highland Way, from his journey’s impulsive starting to its funniest and most painful moments, all the way in which to its profitable finish.
With disarming asides and humorous accents, Heughan’s narration reveals the fun-loving but considerate man behind his performing roles. He describes getting caught by one other climber as he’s speaking to mushroom “armies” alongside the path, which reminds Heughan of different embarrassing moments on and off set. The actor grew up in and was formed by this panorama, and the attractive but rugged lochs and hills are the proper backdrop to his descriptions of the grandeur and prices of fame.
Bookended by scenes with Heughan’s estranged father, Waypoints is a companionable and galvanizing memoir that encourages soul-searching and mindfulness.
