With this strategy in thoughts, co-creator and artist Peter Krause labored on BLACKING OUT over a number of years, toiling over every web page to create a good 56-page graphic novel. (Note: Chip wanted some further pages, so not maintaining it to the usual French 48-page customary is his fault! – Pete.) Working “Marvel-style” (the author offering the artist a script with no panel breakdowns), Peter was in a position to train full inventive management over the pacing of the story, a rarity in American comics. Chip then adopted with a last lettering draft after Peter completed drawing the entire pages. This artistic course of ensured a deep collaboration between author and artist… true co-creators in each sense.
