There’s wit, honesty and perception in Madly, Deeply (19.5 hours), a set of Alan Rickman’s succinct but keenly observant diary entries spanning 1993 to 2015. The late actor’s journals reveal a palpable lack of pretentiousness and a go-with-the-flow angle (even after being identified with pancreatic most cancers), in addition to a compelling distinction between his two worlds: his movie star life in theater and movie, and his personal day-to-day existence.
Voice actor Steven Crossley does a superb job of capturing Rickman’s supply and pacing whereas recounting Rickman’s candid remarks about co-stars, heat gatherings with mates and his love for Rima Horton, his childhood sweetheart and spouse. Bonnie Wright (who performed Ginny Weasley within the Harry Potter movies) narrates the stirring foreword by Emma Thompson, bringing out Thompson’s admiration and fond recollections of her pricey pal. Equally affecting is the afterword, written and narrated by Horton, by which she reveals how even in his final weeks, Rickman lived life with poignancy and celebration.
Profound and heart-rending, that is an inspiring hear for followers of Alan Rickman.
