The House of Representatives has resolved to cease sports activities betting within the nation, and urged the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) to adjust to the Lottery Regulatory Commission Act, 2005.
The decision adopted the adoption of a movement by Rep. Kelechi Nwogu (PDP-Rivers) at plenary in Abuja on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had earlier reported that roughly 60 million Nigerians aged between18 and 40 interact in sports activities betting.
Nwogu added that it had additionally led to pressure or damaged relationships as a consequence of mendacity or stealing from family and friends, monetary issues, authorized points, and job loss as a consequence of extreme loss or debt.
“Betting has given rise to increased crime rate and eventual suicide,” he mentioned.
He harped on the necessity for campaigns to forestall the destructive social impression of lottery and underage participation.
