David Lynch’s Wife Emily Stofle Files for Divorce

David Lynch and Emily Stofle are calling it quits.

Stofle, 46, filed for divorce from the Mulholland Drive director, 77, after 14 years of marriage, in line with courtroom paperwork obtained by PEOPLE.

In the submitting, the actress requested for sole authorized and bodily custody of their 11-year-old daughter, Lula Boginia. Stofle is asking for Lynch to have visitation rights. She can also be asking for spousal help and lawyer’s charges.

The former couple married on Feb. 26, 2009. The pair collaborated when Stofle appeared in Lynch’s characteristic movie, Inland Empire, and restricted collection, Twin Peaks: The Return.

Lynch confessed in a 2018 interview with The Guardian that he tended to prioritize his work over his private life.

“You gotta be selfish. And it’s a terrible thing. I never really wanted to get married, never really wanted to have children. One thing leads to another and there it is.” He added, “I did what I had to do. There could have been more work done. There are always so many interruptions.”

Stofle shared along with his memoir’s co-author, Kristine McKenna, that Lynch shared his priorities along with her forward of their daughter’s delivery. “After I had Lula, he disappeared into his work, which is what he does… he works and that’s where he gets his joy,” she advised McKenna, per The Guardian.

The director was married three earlier occasions earlier than his marriage to Stofle. He was married to Peggy Lynch from 1967 to 1974, Mary Fisk from 1977 to 1987, and Mary Sweeney from 2006 to 2007.
