The Directors Guild of America has introduced the administrators competing for the high characteristic movie prize at its seventy fifth annual DGA Awards, and nil of the nominees are ladies: potential contenders like Gina Prince-Bythewood (“The Woman King”) and Sarah Polley (“Women Talking”) have been shut out of the race.
Women dominate the First-Time Feature Film Prize class, accounting for 4 of 5 nominees. Up for honors are Alice Diop for “Saint Omer,” the story of a author attending the trial of a lady accused of infanticide; Audrey Diwan for “Happening,” a portrait of a lady attempting to get an abortion in France earlier than the process was legalized; Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic for “Murina,” a coming-of-age story a couple of teen who’s drawn towards’s her father’s pal; and Charlotte Wells for “Aftersun,” a drama centering round a trip a pre-teen lady takes along with her single father.
