Olivia Wilde’s-highly anticipated Don’t Worry Darling had its world premiere on the Venice Film Festival this night. Flanked by stars Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan — and Florence Pugh who flew in late from the Budapest set of Dune 2 — Wilde noticed her movie obtain a spirited five-plus minute ovation.

In his overview, Deadline’s Pete Hammond referred to as Wilde’s movie a “candy-coated psychological thriller” about “the terror imposed by men controlling women’s bodies.”

The Nineteen Fifties societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank (Pine) — equal components company visionary and motivational life coach — anchors each side of day by day life within the tight-knit desert utopia.
While the husbands spend day-after-day contained in the Victory Project Headquarters, engaged on the “development of progressive materials,” their wives — together with Frank’s elegant associate, Shelley (Chan) — get to spend their time having fun with the wonder, luxurious and debauchery of their group. Life is ideal, with each resident’s wants met by the corporate. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning dedication to the Victory trigger.
But when cracks of their idyllic life start to seem, exposing flashes of one thing rather more sinister lurking beneath the engaging façade, Alice finds herself questioning precisely what they’re doing in Victory, and why.
The movie opens domestically on September 23.
