Drizilik on Inspiration, Temptation, and Faith in New Single ‘Decide’

After asserting his North American debut at the OneSaloneMusik Fest, Drizilik shared a teaser for a brand new video from Ashobi, his sophomore album. Decide; monitor 7 on Ashobi premieres at this time on MTVBase.

I caught up with Drizilik to speak concerning the inspiration behind the music and music video for Decide.

How did you get the inspiration for Decide?

Drizilik: Decide was one of many final songs I made on the Ashobi album. And I simply felt impressed. DJ Rampage and I had simply gotten to Ghana in June 2019. He was on his keyboard doing his factor, and I used to be exterior. As quickly as I heard the keys, I ran in and instructed him to play it once more. I freestyled until the hook got here to me. It wasn’t till I used to be in London this previous summer season that I wrote the entire thing. 

What position does/has religion performed in your life?

Drizilik: Ah no go say mi na church pikin, however between Aunty Omo and my granny, that they had us in church; Sunday School and Bible lesson.

There is lots of irony in the lyrics…issues should not what they appear or how they seem. Seems such as you’re saying that God is the one fixed. Is that the message?

Drizilik: I do know I’m not alone. We are all in the identical wrestle making an attempt to max out on our potential or discover our goal. Decide speaks to that collective expertise, the hurdles we face in the search for extra. In Sierra Leone at this time, so many individuals are going by it. Where did you shoot the video, and what are you making an attempt to say in every scene?

Drizilik: We shot in 4 places in Basildon after I was in the UK final summer season. There are scenes in a church, a spot of solace and redemption for the devoted, then we moved to the English countryside with vast open areas and greenery. Nature provides peace and reminds us that progress is feasible.

In the scene with the homies, we wished to point out the burden of peer stress and the necessity to belong. And lastly, there’s the scene with ladies in the bed room, which speaks to sexual rigidity and temptation. The distractions are at all times there however in all issues, depart it God make i resolve.
