The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Apostle Theophilus Oloche Ebonyi, the General Overseer of Faith On The Rock Ministry International.
The clergyman is dealing with accusations of defrauding church members and different people, amounting to N1,319,040,274.31 (One Billion Three Hundred and Nineteen Million, Forty Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventy-Four Naira, Thirty-One Kobo). The alleged fraudulent exercise entails using counterfeit grants from the Ford Foundation.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in a press release on Monday, February 5, 2024, stated Ebonyi was arrested for defrauding his victims, comprising Non Governmental Organisations, NGOs and people by promoting an intervention challenge by way of his NGO (Theobarth Global Foundation) claiming that the Ford Foundation was providing a grant of $20,000, 000 (Twenty Billion United State Dollars) to help the less-privileged within the society.
He allegedly beguiled his victims to subscribe as beneficiaries of the phoney grant by asking them to pay for registration varieties and clusters. Each subscriber was made to pay N1,800,000 (One Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira) solely.
Through this association, Ebonyi allegedly raked in N1,391,040, 274.31. His subscribers are harmless and unsuspecting Nigerians and NGOs throughout the nation.
Investigations by the EFCC confirmed that Ford Foundation had no association, grant, relationship or enterprise with Ebonyi.
The Foundation pointedly disclaimed him and his NGO stressing that it had no hyperlink in any way with them. The Commission has additionally traced 5 properties he acquired as proceeds of his felony dealings.
Ebonyi remains to be reportedly reaching his subscribers on some social media platforms to market his spurious grant from Ford Foundation.
He can be charged to courtroom as quickly as investigations are concluded.
