But followers of the OG Punisher will likely be delighted to hear that Marvel has introduced a five-issue miniseries set throughout the Vietnam War that finds Frank Castle going head to head towards Nick Fury himself in the appropriately titled Get Fury. Penning this miniseries, that is a part of Marvel’s grownup MAX imprint, is none apart from author Garth Ennis who’s clearly no stranger to the character. Joining him on artwork duties is  Jacen Burrow who’s beforehand collaborated with Ennis on previous tasks like Crossed. Artist Dave Johnson offers covers for the sequence.

Frank Castle Get FuryOfficial press launch beneath:

This May, legendary storyteller Garth Ennis returns to Marvel Comics in GET FURY, a new five-issue restricted sequence starring two characters he helped outline for the fashionable age: Nick Fury and Frank Castle. Joining Ennis will likely be frequent collaborator and celebrity artist Jacen Burrows, together with acclaimed artist Dave Johnson for the sequence’ covers. This trio of expertise will pit two of comics’ most formidable troopers towards one another in a daring and pulse-pounding saga set throughout the Vietnam War.

In addition to a return of Ennis, the retro sequence additionally marks an thrilling comeback for Nick Fury and Frank Castle, two iconic characters who’ve handed on their mantles in present-day continuity. The MAX-rated saga kicks off when Frank is assigned what could be essentially the most harmful mission of his profession: to assassinate Nick Fury!

It’s 1971, there is a battle raging in Vietnam, and Nick Fury has been captured by the Viet Cong. At this second, they don’t fairly perceive that they’ve in their possession a man who is aware of sufficient secrets and techniques to injury the United States past comprehension. The C.I.A., nonetheless, DOES understand this, and so they can’t danger their enemy getting these secrets and techniques, in order that they dispatch essentially the most lethal man in the U.S. Army – LT. Frank Castle.

On writing the characters once more, Ennis shared: “There’s a nice sense of things coming full circle with GET FURY; the editor is my good friend Nick Lowe, who handled Born back at the beginning some 20+ years ago, and just like that story this one sees Frank Castle as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam (in fact, it goes some way to explaining how he ended up at Firebase Valley Forge in the first place). As the two most violent men in mainstream comics, Fury and Frank work well together- just like they did in the Vietnam sequence of Fury: My War Gone By. All in all, if GET FURY turns out to be the last time I write Frank, I think it’ll make for a worthy farewell.”

“I never have more fun on a project than I do with Garth, and his work with these two characters is world class,” Burrows added. “Getting to bring this chapter of their saga to life was extremely exciting to me as a huge fan of those previous books. And I think I am in the minority of artists that really enjoy the research aspect of doing a period book, so getting to draw a comic set at the tail end of the Vietnam War was a fun challenge.”

Check out a variant cowl and inside artwork by Jacen Burrows beneath.

Look for Get Fury #1 (of 5) to arrive in shops and digitally on Wednesday, May 1st.
