The Artist Says She’s Getting “Raw” With Her First Solo Project
JT shared her commentary throughout a Q&A with fellow “Muñekita” artist Kali Uchis for Interview Magazine.
During the chat, JT spent a while reflecting on how — though she gave up residing in Miami for a bi-coastal way of life between LA and New York City — she nonetheless proudly boasts her South Florida outlook.
“I love Miami so much, even though I don’t live there because of the trauma. But I still talk like I’m from Miami. I still walk like I’m from Miami. I still rap like I’m from Miami.”
She additionally famous that her OG hometown followers hold her from veering into “more commercialized music,” and she or he’s seeking to embrace this vibe by getting again to her “roots.”
“And when I do something good, the hood always calls me. When I stray and do more commercialized music, they don’t be feeling it, but when I do my little hood one-two, they be like, ‘That’s what I’m talking about.’ That’s what I’m going to lean into more when I do my first project. My roots.”
JT warmly added, “And just give it to them raw because raw b***hes is winning right now.”
On prime of giving her followers what they need, she acknowledged, “I just want to push the limit. I want to make girls like me believe they could do it, for real.”
JT Says She Hopes To “Get More Into Community Work”
Speaking of her roots, the “Where The Bag At?” rapper mirrored on how she aspires to attain the identical perception in herself that she as soon as had, as she feels “the industry sucked that out.”
“I want to have that same belief in myself that I had years ago, and I feel like the industry sucked that out of all of us. We stopped believing in ourselves, how we was when we had nothing and our backs was against the wall.”
The artist continued, “Now we’re up against bigger machines, but I want to get back into that space, like tunnel vision.”
Additionally, JT mentioned she’s been “having these little talks” with herself to offer self-assurance as she tries to achieve new “levels” in her profession.
“I’ve been having these little talks with myself. I know I could get on these levels because I have the talent, but I’m not really in my own space to the point that I’m nominated, and those are things I want to see for myself.”
Kali Uchis agreed and acknowledged the facility of manifestation by noting, “Visualizing is definitely the first step, and it’s good that you have such a strong vision for what you want for yourself.”
As far as what the long run holds for JT, she hinted that the subsequent City Girls album will arrive later this month. Additionally, she hopes to launch a “raw, grungy” EP in early 2024.
“I really want my first EP to have that raw, grungy sound. I wanted to do that for my birthday, but I think it’s too soon because I’m so picky. So probably the top of next year.”
She additionally mentioned she needs to provide again to the group extra.
“I want to get more into community work. I really want to get back into the prison system to help out people and families. I want to be remembered for doing good in the world. I know it’s a clichéd answer, but it’s so serious coming from me.”
