These days, Ke Huy Quan is on high of the world. He lately gained Best Supporting Actor on the Golden Globes for his efficiency in Everything Everywhere All at Once. And now, he is up for an Oscar — fingers crossed he takes it house!
But all this success and recognition is a far cry from the final 40 years. Since the kid actor starred in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies within the ’80s, he is had only a few roles. And in yesterday’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he shared that Hollywood continued to snub him even after he wrapped the filming of Everything Everywhere.
Stephen identified that filming ended when COVID hit — so the film did not come out for a couple of years — and requested what Ke did within the meantime.
Ke stated that he repeatedly auditioned, however he could not land a single job! “Not one callback. Nobody wanted me.”
Fighting for roles however being shut down at each flip introduced again the identical nervousness he skilled as a toddler actor.
“I was so worried because I was experiencing everything I experienced as a kid, when I was auditioning, and I couldn’t get a job,” he stated.
“When you work with Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, and George Lucas, you can’t go anywhere but downhill from there,” he joked. “And that’s exactly what happened!”
When Stephen requested if Ke and Steven Spielberg saved in contact over time, the actor revealed that the director despatched him Christmas presents for the final 38 years. How candy is that?!
And I wager that is not the final standing ovation Ke will earn at an awards present. He’s bought a ton of upcoming tasks, together with a reunion with Michelle Yeoh within the Disney+ sequence American Born Chinese. And he’ll be becoming a member of the MCU in Season 2 of Loki!
Congrats on all of your success, Ke!
