Born in Hertfordshire, England in 1946, Reid left college at an early age to pursue a profession in songwriting. He met singer Gary Brooker in 1966, who at that time had departed his earlier group, the Paramounts. Reid and Brooker rapidly developed a kinship and commenced writing collectively.
