The first two Ant-Man films had been each breaks from the epic motion of the remainder of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ant-Man 1 was like a little bit epilogue to Avengers: Age of Ultron. Ant-Man and the Wasp was like a little bit ellipsis within the area between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. These films had been the intermezzo between main programs of the meal that’s the MCU.
But Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is completely different. Instead of the coda after a section, it’s the official kickoff of Phase 5 of the MCU, and the formal introduction of Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror, who would be the key villain within the subsequent a number of years of Marvel films and exhibits. The option to introduce Kang within the usually small-stakes world of Ant-Man was a deliberate selection, in line with Marvel’s Kevin Feige in a brand new Quantumania featurette.
“We always love doing the unexpected with Scott Lang,” Feige says. “Ant-Man is arguably the character that is the most underestimated. Ant-Man became the key to saving the universe in Avengers: Endgame. So, carrying that tradition, we thought, ‘Let’s use this film to kick off Phase 5.’”

It is a little bit jarring to see Ant-Man, the man who shrinks to steal stuff (and sometimes grows huge to punch Falcon within the face) now squaring off with Kang, one of many deadliest villains within the historical past of Marvel. That doesn’t appear to be a very reasonable battle. But maybe that’s the purpose. Don’t you wish to see how Ant-Man beats this man? Or at the least survives to battle one other day in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars?
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to open completely in theaters on February 17.

These comic-book films aren’t simply dangerous. They all took basic comedian guide tales and turned them into junk.
