It’s true what they are saying: Cops and girls don’t combine; like consuming a spoonful of Drano. Sure, it’ll clear you out. But it’ll go away you hole inside.
Liam Neeson and The Naked Gun, however, these combine. Neeson, the stalwart motion hero who has been cranking out thrillers left and proper since he had a shock mega-hit with Taken in 2008, will star in a reboot of the favored Eighties and ’90s spoof collection a few bumbling Los Angeles cop. Neeson’s motion films have gotten more and more outlandish by means of the years, so why not make a full-on comedy? It makes lots of sense.
According to Deadline, “plot details are being kept under wraps except that Neeson might be playing the son of Detective Frank Drebin instead of stepping into the role made famous by Leslie Nielsen.” Neeson is 70 years previous; Leslie Nielsen was born in 1926, so he may have plausibly had a son in 1952. I’m not fairly positive I see the bodily resemblance however hey; possibly that can be a part of the joke.
While the unique films (and the Police Squad! tv present which impressed the movies) had been created by the comedy crew of David and Jerry Zucker and Jim Abrahams, this one can be directed by Akiva Schaffer of the Lonely Island. Schaffer not too long ago directed the very humorous film model of Chip ’n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, so he has some expertise in updating previous properties for contemporary sensibilities. Plus, he’s a really humorous man.
There was first speak of a Naked Gun starring Neeson again in January of 2021, when it was reported that Seth MacFarlane might want to remake The Naked Gun. (MacFarlane stays a producer on the challenge.) Prior to this, there have been rumors of a reboot starring Ed Helms as Drebin, with Reno 911!’s Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant writing the screenplay. That challenge by no means materialized, leaving room for Liam Neeson to embrace his full potential as a ridiculously foolish cop.
