In Riverdale, even the toys are terrifying on this anthology one-shot set in the universe of final yr’s Fear the Funhouse comedian. Three tales of dolls, robots, and puppets gone awry all due to the work of a shadowy toymaker and a younger woman intent on revenge, in the vein of the broadly profitable M3GAN film and Child’s Play franchise.
The three tales in the anthology one-shot come from writers Timmy Heague, Danielle Paige, and Michael Northrop and artists Ryan Caskey, Tango, and Ryan Jampole. Matt Herms supplies the colours for the full situation, whereas Jack Morelli letters all three tales. The complete package deal comes underneath a primary cowl by Caskey, and a variant cowl by Sweeney Boo.
“Since the release of the M3GAN movie earlier this year, I was inundated with pitches for stories about toys coming to life, and it became clear what the theme for this year’s Funhouse would be,” Archie Comics Senior Director of Editorial Jamie L. Rotante mentioned again when the one-shot was first introduced. “Pulling from both M3GAN as well as iconic series like Child’s Play with a dash of Small Soldiers thrown in for good measure, the writers for Toybox of Terror all delivered big time on their stories, with each one being a unique take on the theme, all with a special Archie flair.”
