After three years, Pink Tape has arrived. And with it, a complete of almost an hour and thirty minutes of latest music, that includes tracks with Nicki Minaj, Bring Me The Horizon, BABYMETAL, Don Tolliver, and Travis Scott. Lil Uzi Vert has actually made it value our wait.
And the 26-track album sounds, and feels, authentically Uzi — from their rapping cadence and gaming and anime influences to lyricism that touches on their private struggles with sobriety. Halfway via the document, he even covers System of a Down’s 2001 traditional “Chop Suey!” There’s one thing to be stated of an artist who really reveals all of their playing cards, emotionally and creatively.

On Pink Tape, Uzi leans into their appreciation of other music, from heavy metallic to pop punk, each in solo tracks and thru options. We hear clear and unclean vocals from Uzi, using a metallic growl in lure tracks, and a heavier soundscape to match in “Werewolf,” a catchy track that’s surprisingly brash, even for Bring Me The Horizon.
However enigmatic at first listen this lengthy project may sound, the bizarre, endearing, collage of scenes and sounds is, and has always been, the beauty of Uzi’s work. And on that note, this album, in all actuality, may be the most true-to-form yet for the acclaimed artist. Pink Tape is purely genre-fluid, defiantly rule-breaking, heart-baring, and ultimately, utterly, the definition of alternative.
