Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter has launched his unique soundtrack for Daaaaaalí!, a brand new French comedy movie concerning the lifetime of the enduring artist Salvador Dalí.
The movie, which premiered on the 2023 Venice Film Festival, launched as we speak, February seventh. Ed Banger Records has made Bangalter’s soundtrack out there each digitally and on 10″ vinyl.
The release features the titular track of Bangalter’s score as well as “ÂGE RÉEL,” which functions as an extended version. Bangalter’s quirky flamenco guitar riffs mirror the absurdist nature of Daaaaaalí!.
Daaaaaalí! was directed by Quentin Dupieux, a longtime friend of Bangalter who moonlights as the renowned electronic music producer Mr. Oizo. The Daft Punk legend even made a brief unmasked appearance in a scene from 2014’s Reality, which Dupieux directed.
“Releasing this soundtrack with two of my all-time favorite artists felt like a pure and apparent alternative!” said Ed Banger Records founder Pedro Winter. “Since ‘Steak’ in 2007, Ed Banger Records has launched most of Quentin Dupieux’s unique soundtracks. When he advised me he needed to contain Thomas Bangalter in his mission Daaaaaalí!, I knew it could change into one thing particular.”
“Both Thomas and Quentin had a pretty clear idea of how the music could and should become a character in the film,” Winter continued. “Stepping out of his comfort zone, Thomas used only an ancient zither and recorded it in his Parisian studio. He delivered this repetitive theme from the 1930s that gets directly into your head and perfectly aligns with the surreal vision of this brilliant director. This record celebrates the golden age of music and cinema, with the director and composers all sharing a love for classic and timeless film scores.”
Featuring a number of actors depicting Dalí, the surrealist comedy movie follows a French journalist who meets the legendary artist whereas engaged on an ill-fated documentary. Check out the official trailer beneath.
