Last week it was reported that Paramount Pictures was shifting ahead with Top Gun 3. The report stated that Tom Cruise is returning to the franchise with Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski. The co-writer of Maverick, Ehren Kruger, is purported to be writing the script, and Miles Teller and Glen Powell had been on board as nicely.
During a latest interview with Happy Sad Confused podcast, Kosinski was requested in regards to the new and he stated that he hasn’t formally heard phrase {that a} third Top Gun movie is really taking place, and went on to say that he would solely return to the franchise if there was a ok story or purpose. He stated:
“I haven’t. I mean, listen — I can’t help myself, as you’re about to go to sleep at night, the brain dreams. And of course, you can’t help but think: if there was another one, what would that story be? How could we possibly — what’s the emotional reason to bring Maverick back? What’s the challenge? Having done this, how could you possibly push it further enough that there is a challenge there, to go beyond. So, of course, you think about those things. But for me, I’ve got this F1 movie in front of me right now. I’m developing some other things. Tom [Cruise] is off shooting another Mission, and possibly going to space. So we’ve all got very ambitious things ahead of ourselves.”
Kosinski went on to say: (*3*)ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-910″ data-method=”placement-service”/>
Powell, who plays Hangman in the franchise, also addressed the reports of a third film and he teased some fun stuff is going to be announced. He also says that he’s been talking with Kosinski and the rest of the creative team. He says:
“There is going to be some enjoyable stuff being introduced quickly…nevertheless it was confidential to me. I discuss to [Maverick director Joseph] Kosinski, Cruise and Jerry [Bruckheimer, producer] on a regular basis. There is stuff taking place and it sounds very thrilling. I do not know when I’ll be going again… I’m certain there is a jet ready for me someday sooner or later.”
So, he’s saying that things are happening! Maybe there’s some miscommunication going on? Maybe Kosinski just isn’t ready to talk about it yet? I have no idea, but now I’m not sure if Top Gun 3 is actually happening or not. If it’s not, I’m totally fine with that. Top Gun: Maverick would be a very hard film to top.
