The PGA Awards is ready to rejoice Mindy Kaling with a prestigious honor. The prolific screenwriter, actress, producer, and author has been named as this 12 months’s recipient of the Guild’s Norman Lear Achievement Award. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the information.
Given in recognition of a producer or producing group for his or her physique of labor on the small display screen, the award counts Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Bridgerton”), Marta Kauffman (“Friends,” “Grace and Frankie”), and Amy Sherman-Palladino (“Gilmore Girls,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) amongst its earlier honorees.
Kaling will obtain the award at the thirty fourth annual PGA Awards, set to happen February 25.
“It is such an honor to be asked to receive the Norman Lear Award, a prize named after the prolific and groundbreaking producer I am so inspired by. To be included in this prestigious group of past recipients is humbling, and I’m so grateful to the Producers Guild for this recognition,” stated Kaling.
PGA presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line added, “Comedy can break boundaries and push culture forward; Mindy Kaling‘s immense contributions to the television comedy landscape are prime examples of this truth. Kaling is known for her trailblazing work on ‘The Office,’ a widely loved and infinitely rewatchable contemporary classic, but it’s her work producing series from diverse female perspectives that is reshaping the industry. From ‘The Mindy Project,’ to ‘Never Have I Ever,’ to ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls,’ Kaling has proven just how much audiences have been craving funny, relatable stories about characters we’ve rarely see as television protagonists. We are so happy to present her with the Norman Lear Award at this year’s PGA Awards ceremony.”
Kaling is a six-time Emmy nominee whose producing credit embrace “The Office,” “The Mindy Project,” “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” and “Never Have I Ever.” She co-created the latter three sequence. She had a supporting function on “The Office” and led “The Mindy Project.” Kaling produced and wrote 2019’s “Late Night,” a comedy about the first feminine TV author employed by a late-night host. She co-starred with Emma Thompson in the movie. She was final seen in the second season of Apple TV+ drama “The Morning Show,” which she has a recurring function in.
