Oasis’ ‘Definitely Maybe’ Is ‘Last Great Punk Album’

Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Clash, Iggy and the Stooges … Oasis? While Oasis is probably not the primary band you consider when punk rock is talked about, Noel Gallagher lately referred to his band’s breakout album, Definitely Maybe, as “the last great punk album in many respects.”

During an interview with Mojo journal reflecting on the long-lasting 1994 launch, Gallagher commented, “Definitely Maybe was the last great punk album in many respects. We were a punk band with Beatles melodies. We had no effects, barely any equipment, just loads of attitude, 12 cans of Red Stripe and ambition.”

He then took issues a step additional drawing a comparability to punk icons the Sex Pistols, noting, “If you listen to that and Never Mind the Bollocks, they’re quite similar. While their sound won’t be conventional punk rock, Oasis undoubtedly had the swagger that you just noticed in lots of punk icons of the last decade that preceded them. “We at all times had unshakable self-belief in Oasis. Going into the beginning of 1994 we didn’t have ‘Supersonic,’ however every thing else was already written. However quick they have been, we have been quicker. However good they have been, we’d trump it. They have been all nice bands, however we have been higher. It was so simple as that.”
