Don’t Worry Darling broke the web with its first trailer, which included a scene by which Harry Styles‘ character performs oral sex on Florence Pugh‘s character on a eating room desk.
And because it seems, there would’ve been much more provocative scenes featured in the trailer, had director Olivia Wilde gotten her method.
The filmmaker informed the Associated Press that the MPA rankings board “came down hard” on the unique cut of the trailer, and compelled her to take away extra scenes that had been deemed too risqué.

“There’s a lot that had to be taken out of the trailer,” Wilde stated when requested by the AP about together with a “sex act” in the trailer. “The MPA came down hard on me and the trailer at the last second and I had to cut some shots, which I was upset about because I thought they took it up another notch.
“But of course we nonetheless reside in a extremely puritanical society,” she continued. “I do suppose the lack of eroticism in American movie is type of new. Then in terms of feminine pleasure, it is one thing that we simply do not see fairly often until you are speaking about queer cinema.”

Wilde shared similar thoughts in her Variety cover story, saying, “Female pleasure, the greatest variations of it that you just see these days, are in queer movies. Why are we extra comfy with feminine pleasure when it is two girls on movie? In hetero sex scenes in movie, the concentrate on males as the recipients of pleasure is nearly ubiquitous.”
In her AP interview, Wilde added that “individuals are upset with me already over this,” referencing the film’s oral sex scene. “I feel it is a testomony to the movie. We wish to be provocative. The concept is to not make you’re feeling protected.”

Don’t Worry Darling lead actor Florence Pugh beforehand expressed frustration over the reception to the film’s trailer, as that transient glimpse of the oral sex scene has dominated buzz about the psychological thriller ever since. Pugh criticised viewers for decreasing the total movie to 1 sex scene.
“When it is decreased to your sex scenes, or to look at the most well-known man in the world go down on somebody, it is not why we do it. It’s not why I’m on this trade,” Pugh said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
“Obviously, the nature of hiring the most well-known pop star in the world, you are going to have conversations like that. That’s simply not what I’m going to be discussing as a result of [this movie is] larger and higher than that. And the individuals who made it are larger and higher than that.”
Don’t Worry Darling premieres Sept. 5 at the Venice Film Festival and will hit theatres later this month.
