Martin Kemp and his spouse Shirlie have been by means of lots in their 34-year marriage, from welcoming two kids to the Spandau Ballet singer’s mind tumours and even monetary struggles.
But they’ve maintained a detailed relationship, even selecting to tie the knot twice to reaffirm their dedication to at least one one other. Rewind to 1988 when the EastEnders actor and the Wham! backing singer first obtained married in St Lucia, choosing unconventional boho wedding outfits.
Shirlie was pictured standing on the altar in a fitted mini dress in a basic ivory color that highlighted her golden tan, that includes an off-the-shoulder neckline, cropped sleeves, a lattice bodice and a bodycon skirt.
She completed off her vivid blonde pixie reduce with a bow and accessorised with a pearl bracelet, whereas Martin rocked a mismatched black jacket and white trousers in the seaside wedding picture.
They intentionally selected an intimate ceremony, after wanting an escape from their fame. “Our wedding was on a clifftop in St Lucia. It was just me and Shirlie,” defined Martin to the Daily Record.
“At the time, I was in the Spandau chaos and Shirlie was part of Wham! and Pepsi & Shirlie. The last thing we wanted was a wedding where people were standing next to you taking pictures, so we got away and did it on our own.
He sweetly added: “For me, it didn’t matter as a result of for those who love somebody and you need to get married, it actually didn’t matter the place I used to be. I’d have carried out it in a registry workplace and obtained on with it as a result of I used to be in love with Shirlie.”
Shirlie later admitted she fell pregnant along with her eldest baby, daughter Harley, that evening. “I fell pregnant on my wedding day. I’m not sure Martin felt ready to have kids but I did,” she instructed Great British Life, sharing she was involved about her fertility following her endometriosis analysis.
They welcomed Harley in 1989 adopted by their son Roman Kemp 4 years later.
To mark their twenty fifth anniversary, the couple returned to St Lucia to resume their vows in 2013, with Shirlie selecting a Sassi Holford robe with a lace sweetheart neckline, tea-length tulle skirt and a waist sash with pink flowers.
She went barefoot for the low-key affair, which noticed her husband in an all-white ensemble as they strolled alongside the sandy seashore.
Unlike the primary time they exchanged vows, the Kemps selected to share their second wedding day with shut buddies and household. Shirlie’s former singing associate Pepsi was her bridesmaid, whereas a candid snap reveals her daughter trying radiant in a long-sleeved lace white frock.
