Roy Keane has warned Manchester United that the “circus” is creeping back into the membership after Erik ten Hag’s aspect have been humiliated 7-0 by Liverpool at Anfield.
United had come into the sport on an 11-game unbeaten run and recent from ending their six-year trophy drought by profitable the Carabao Cup in opposition to Newcastle at Wembley final weekend.
But they have been utterly overwhelmed by Liverpool on Super Sunday, conceding six second-half targets in a shocking collapse to undergo their heaviest defeat since Boxing Day 1931.
And Keane, talking to Sky Sports, warned the Man Utd gamers about getting too carried away by their current success, saying Ten Hag and the senior gamers need to maintain an in depth eye on how the squad offers with the added consideration positioned on them.
He informed Sky Sports: “The factor I’m all the time cautious of with Man United, they gained the cup final week, a whole lot of celebration and naturally I’d by no means begrudge a staff of that. But they turned up in opposition to West Ham, I’m at the sport, and the circus is back in town at Man United.
Keane added: “I used to be all the time cautious of that as a participant there: Keeping an eye fixed on folks, do not get carried away as a result of you understand what this recreation can do to you.
“I see the gamers come right here in the present day in the second half, having fun and a joke. They’re 1-0 down at Anfield and so they’re having snort and a joke with the Anfield employees, goalkeeping coach. I do not prefer to see all that garbage.
“I think that circus can creep back in and the manager and senior players have to keep an eye on that. It was the same against West Ham the other night: A lot of presentations, celebrations. I understand one or two – but not four or five.
“West Ham [in the midweek FA Cup tie] let them off the hook, because they are not good enough.
“Today at half-time, there have been gamers strolling down the tunnel having fun and a joke. You’re 1-0 down at Anfield, this is a critical enterprise.
“This is big boy stuff and forget all of this laughing and joking rubbish. And in the second half where there are some players throwing the towel in, you don’t expect them to be laughing at the end of the game.”
Keane: I would go into hiding for months!
Keane went on to say the “senior and experienced” gamers at Man Utd “let the club down” at Anfield.
The former United captain additionally added he would “go into hiding” if he was a participant who put in that sort of show.
“I never thought United were back to their very best,” he informed Sky Sports.
“They’ve had some very good results. They’ve been giving teams chances – Leicester at home, West Ham. Teams have let them off the hook.
“Liverpool did not allow them to off the hook and punished them. That’s the place they deserve credit score. They have been medical, ruthless. They stored going and wished extra targets.
He added: “The senior players at Man United, the big players, the ones we give a big build-up to, the experienced players – they are the ones who let the club down today.
“When it was three or 4, you’re taking your drugs, you’re taking your loss. The means they have been so open, the supervisor tried to make substitutions, they threw the towel in.
“I try and imagine: If I had ever been beaten in a big game like this, I would go into hiding as a player. You would. Never mind a few days, a few months!
“It actually is that embarrassing for the gamers. What are you able to do? That’s the sport. They need to bounce back and so they have a giant European recreation in the center of the week.”
‘You get more attention at Man Utd than at any other club’
Graeme Souness says that Man Utd gamers are extra in the highlight than at some other membership and thinks it might be a problem for a few of Ten Hag’s squad.
“Some of the Man Utd players have to look at themselves today,” the previous Liverpool midfielder informed Sky Sports.
“When I played at Liverpool, we always felt that if Man Utd did anything they got far more publicity than they were due.
“It should be a problem taking part in at Man Utd.”
He added: “In Germany, Bayern Munich are referred to as FC Hollywood. Man Utd are the equal in England.
“Playing for Man Utd that same thing applies. You get a lot of publicity and attention, far more than at any other football club.
“You need to have sturdy senior characters in the dressing room to manage that type of behaviour the place lesser lights can get carried away.
“That’s the price of a ticket at Man Utd. It’s difficult being a top player at any top club given the media scrutiny but at United it is on another level, and those players will have to deal with it.”
