Shane MacGowan, lead singer of the Anglo-Irish band The Pogues, was honored at a funeral on Friday in County Tipperary, Ireland, attended by stars together with Johnny Depp and Nick Cave, after he died final week, age 65.
Depp learn the primary Prayer of the Faithful and paid tribute to the “maestro” MacGowan, after readings from well-known figures equivalent to Game of Thrones star Aiden Gillen and former Sinn Féin chief Gerry Adams.
These had been interspersed with renditions of MacGowan’s music from singers, together with Cave who carried out A Rainy Night in Soho.

Meanwhile, U2 frontman Bono was unable to attend the service however paid tribute to the singer with a recorded studying.
Earlier that day, Ireland had honored MacGowan publicly throughout a procession by way of the streets of Dublin.
A horse-drawn carriage carried his coffin, draped within the Irish flag, by way of the streets whereas mourners paid their respects quietly by the roadside.
MacGowan’s music accompanied the funeral procession in each deliberate and spontaneous kinds.
The procession paused because the Artane Band, a marching band of younger musicians, performed his most well-known hit, the Christmas track Fairytale of New York, whereas the gathered crowd sang alongside.
Elsewhere within the crowd, musicians carried out Dirty Old Town, first recorded by English folks singer Ewan MacColl and later popularised by The Pogues whereas others performed The Pogues’ 1985 single A Pair of Brown Eyes.
On Thursday, MacGowan’s spouse, Victoria Mary Clarke, expressed her gratitude on Instagram that “so many beautiful people are pouring their hearts and souls into making it magnificent and magical and memorable for him and for us who are left behind.”
She added: “Shane hated funerals and he refused to go to them with a few rare exceptions. So it’s incredible to think that so many people want to come to his.”
The Fairytale of New York singer died on November 30 after a prolonged period of ill health, according to social media posts by Clarke.
He had been discharged from Dublin’s St. Vincent’s Hospital on November 22 after receiving treatment there for an infection, Clarke said.
The procession for MacGowan wound along a three-kilometre route through central Dublin from 11am local time (10pm AEDT).
After the procession, MacGowan’s funeral took place at the St. Mary of the Rosary church in Nenagh, a small town about 160 kilometres west of Dublin.

Father Pat Gilbert welcomed “the world of individuals this nice man influenced, inspired, entertained and touched” to the service, which was broadcast live on television and online.
The priest said MacGowan’s “uncooked, vibrant, energetic, earthy soul-filled expression gave us hope and coronary heart and hankering.”
At the front of the Catholic church, the singer’s casket was heaped with red roses, alongside a black-and-white photo of a youthful MacGowan.
Friends and bandmates carried up symbols of MacGowan’s life, including a Led Zeppelin record, a copy of James Joyce’s Finnegan’s Wake, a DVD of The Godfather, a statue of the Virgin Mary and a Buddha.
MacGowan had grappled with multiple health issues in recent years and used a wheelchair since breaking his pelvis in 2015.
Last 12 months, he was recognized with viral encephalitis, a probably life-threatening situation that causes an irritation of the mind.
And MacGowan obtained a full set of dental implants in 2015 after dropping a number of tooth on account of his heavy drug and alcohol use.
Clarke added on Instagram that “in case you do not need to come to the funeral Shane would positively perceive, he would not need to go both!”
“But if you wish to bear in mind him, the subsequent time you see a homeless particular person cease give them your time and your compassion and your respect and deal with them like a brother or a sister.”
