Despite what its title may initially recommend, Ternion Sound’s Digital Artifice is something however disingenuous.
In reality, the bass music trio have been open about their debut album being the most difficult work of their profession so far. Though it could have been an in depth labor of affection, Ternion Sound’s efforts to evolve their sonic signature are more likely to be rewarded.
Out now by way of Noisia’s commemorated VISION imprint, the 26-track effort marks the most complete exploration of the group’s skills to this point. A novel confluence of bass-heavy synthesis, fiery hip-hop verses and a dose of experimental sound design that challenges the established order, Digital Artifice is a contiguous and high-energy effort from begin to end.
The Crazy D-assisted opener “Communion” units the tone for the album’s distinctive mixture of eclectic sounds, revving to life with grinding basslines, punchy 808s and playful, classic melodic synth patches. Meanwhile, “Tangerine Dreams” turns up the urgency with feverish supply from P4V4N and manufacturing that’s no much less biting.
Despite the size of the venture, Ternion Sound are unwavering of their effort to maintain the manufacturing each versatile and interesting all through. From the minimal, cerebral melodies of “Looking Up” to the distortion heavy pangs of “Reachin’,” they boldly refuse to cover inside a slender scope of sounds. And the album as an entire is more likely to problem even long-time followers to view the trio in an entire new gentle.
