Yesterday we realized that director William Friedkin handed away. This filmmaker made some unbelievable tasks over the years together with The French Connection, The Twilight Zones, Tales From The Crypt, Rules of Engagement, The Hunted, and extra. But, there was one challenge above all of them that affected me the most – The Exorcist.
I was eleven or twelve years outdated when I first watched The Exorcist. I knew nothing about it apart from what the cowl of the VHS regarded like and that it was a horror film, so late one evening at my grandma and grandpa’s home I popped the VHS in with a few my cousins and we popped it in to look at it.
I was by no means ready to look at this type of horror movie at that age and The Exorcist utterly broke my younger mind! I had by no means felt a surge of electrical concern move by means of my physique like that earlier than. It felt like I was simply surprised and scared to the core. I keep in mind not with the ability to transfer, not with the ability to look away from the TV display, but in addition being utterly scared shitless and considering that that was my final evening on Earth and that the Devil was going to swallow my soul.
I had a tough time sleeping for months after I watched The Exorcist and when I did sleep the nightmares had been ready for me to scare me another time and wake me up screaming. Yeah, I suppose it’s protected to say that The Exorcist actually did a quantity on me!
But, that concern I felt… I’ve been chasing that concern ever since! I freakin’ beloved that adrenaline rush, and the horror style is one in every of my favorites. I’ll watch something and the whole lot horror! I owe that to The Exorcist. I not often discover that electrical concern in the motion pictures which have been revamped the years. But, with all the movies that I’ve watched, I’m undoubtedly desensitized, so it’s so much more durable to get that rush.
I keep in mind years later a Director’s Cut of The Exorcist was launched in theaters, and I needed to watch this film on the large display! When I did, there was a second that wasn’t in the authentic movie that featured the possessed Regan doing a crab stroll down the stairs, that new second struck me with the similar jolt of concern that I felt as a child when I first noticed the film, and I freakin beloved that! I didn’t suppose I would get that rush once more watching the film as a result of I had seen it so many occasions earlier than, however I completely did, and it was superior!
William Friedkin launched true horror and concern into my life with The Exorcist, and I thank him for that! That film set the bar of concern for me, and it’s uncommon that any horror movie reaches that bar.
