The Nun 2 truly appears prefer it’s going to be a greater horror movie than the primary one and I’ve little doubt it’s going to ship some nice thrills and chills. I simply assume that this sequel gained’t be the final time we see the demonic villain Valak, and through a current interview with SFX Magazine, director Michael Chaves teases the long run of the franchise, saying:
“There’s a line in the movie: ‘Demons are infinite.’ I like the idea that she’s always been here in different forms. I think that there’s still more stories of Valak the demon nun to be told.”
The filmmaker additionally confirms that this sequel “definitely plays a part” in The Conjuring universe. He went on to clarify:
“I wouldn’t want to give anything away, but this is continuing the timeline. Anyone who saw the first Conjuring knows that Maurice is possessed and then exorcised by the Warrens, and we know that that happens in the late ’60s in the Conjuring timeline. This is set in the ’50s so we’re still a ways off from that.
“The occasions of what occurs in between this begins to fill out that story just a little bit extra. There’s different large concepts and large swings in there, and it’s full of a bunch of cool Easter eggs. Without giving something away it continues to fill out the image and the larger canvas.”
That’s really cool and interesting! I like that they’re playing with the character and filling out the backstory of this freaky demon. I’m looking forward to this next Nun movie and I’m hoping that the story is going to be as good as it looks.
The movie is set in 1956 in France. “A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun.”
The director previously explained that Sister Irene “had this traumatic experience, this huge adventure, and now she wants to live the life of service. Maurice made his way to France and he’s working at this boarding school as kind of a handyman. He has a friendship and a flirtation with one of the teachers there, and you can see him starting to mature, so that’s where our characters start out. But we know from the first film that there’s something terrible inside of him, that Valak escaped within him, and events pull Irene back on this collision course with her old friend.”
The film additionally stars Storm Reid (The Last of Us), Anna Popplewell (The Chronicles of Narnia) and Bonnie Aarons (The Nun).
The Nun 2 might be launched in theaters on September eighth!
